Irish poet, novelist, nonfiction author, translator, and one-time United Kingdom Poet Laureate. His numerous literary works include From Feathers to Iron (poems), A Question of Proof (novel), and The Buried Day (autobiography). His mother died in 1906, and he was brought up by his father in London, England.
