Democratic politician who was elected as the eighth Governor of Hawaii in 2014. He was elected after serving as a senator representing the state's 16th district for 11 years and is the fourth native of Hawaii to be elected as the state's governor. He was born and raised in Pearl City, Hawaii. He fought in World War II, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
